How to Set New Year’s Goals for Your Company

“New year, new you,” right?

It’s the start of a new year, and if you’re like most people, you probably made a few New Year’s resolutions designed with self-improvement in mind. But as a small business owner, did you make any New Year’s resolutions to improve your company or make 2023 a breakout year for business?

If so, good for you and probably good for your business because setting goals for the year ahead encourages you and your team to focus on supplementary business initiatives apart from day-to-day operations. Every bit of success you and the team achieve with each of your goals can produce tangible results that improve overall operations and boost your bottom line.

If not, it’s still early in the year, so start fleshing out ideas on what actions you and your team can take to make your company excel in its distinct business sector. While developing your company’s goals, be realistic by creating actionable items that can be quantified to measure success. Doubling revenues might be a pipe dream, but you can certainly push for a reasonable increase in revenue generation if you can suggest realistic actions the team can take to achieve it. Other means for ensuring the success of your 2023 goals is to set milestones or deadlines and assess the progress of achieving goals through scheduling monthly or quarterly meetings.

OK, so you’ve resolved to establish your company’s New Year’s goals, but you’re struggling to develop viable ideas. As a small digital marketing business, Naples, Florida-based Moxxi Marketing focuses on helping companies meet their goals. And while the following proposed goals may not be viable for your business at this time, they may help spur other ideas you can adopt for your company’s New Year’s resolutions.

Enhance Company Culture

Most of today’s employees expect more than a paycheck and standard benefits such as paid vacation, healthcare, and a 401-retirement plan. They want to experience job satisfaction and feel appreciated for the work they do. One way to foster employee job satisfaction is by developing a solid company culture tailored to promoting a positive work environment for all. You can enhance your company culture by getting feedback from employees on what they would like to experience during their day-to-day and week-to-week routines. Naturally, some ideas, such as having an in-office games room or wine bar, may be untenable. Still, you may be able to throw some fun into the mix with something like a monthly Friday after-work happy hour or other regular fun events. You can also encourage employee teamwork by forming a company softball team or participating in other competitive or community-giving activities.

You can also enhance your company culture by providing employees with the best work-life balance possible. To the extent possible, give them more opportunities to spend time with family and, if not detrimental to operations, allow some work to be conducted from home. Your employees’ feedback should provide you with ideas on how you can enhance their work-life balance.

Seek Out Automation Options

Technology keeps advancing and provides ever more options for automating on-the-job tasks. Have you reviewed the latest hardware and software that might be able to boost your company’s operations? If not, 2023 might be a good year to check out the latest offerings to see what technologies might be able to automate specific processes and allow employees to focus on the core business.

Take Heed of What Your Customers Want

No matter what product and/or service your company provides, “the customer is always right.” Thus, take a proactive approach to listening to your customers in 2023. You can do this in various ways, such as by creating surveys and feedback forms and actively engaging with your customers on social media. People are often willing to offer feedback when presented with the opportunity, so make sure you offer customer review options wherever possible. You could start by setting up a Google My Business Listing if you do not already have one.

Oh, and to help make this resolution beneficial to your company, take heed of what your customers say by making any operational changes that can improve customer satisfaction.

Boost Your Online Presence

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you probably know that every major company worldwide has a robust online presence, and that the digital revolution is driving a massive surge in online business. And your company has an online presence, and you’re conducting more business online these days, right? If not, you should join this digital revolution or risk obsolescence because just about everyone currently seeks out products and services via the Internet.

If you do not have a website yet, it’s time to invest in building one. And if you do have one, it’s time to be more proactive in making that website and your online presence help boost brand recognition, audience, and potential sales.
